All applicants must report in person to the Linn County Human Resources Department at 935 2nd Street SW between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday to complete the keyboard test. No appointment necessary. Please call 319-892-5120 if you have completed the keyboard test in the past 90 days, as you may not have to re-test.
LINN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Answers and dispatches routine and emergency calls for service involving fire, ambulance and law enforcement agencies by radio, telephone and computer. Operates computers to enter information regarding warrants, missing persons, stolen property, etc. to disseminate and receive needed information. Files and keeps records. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in public safety communications preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; some knowledge of office procedures and standard office equipment. ability to hear at a normal speaking range; ability to establish and maintain good working relations with the general public under all circumstances; ability to speak in a clear, concise voice; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to learn and memorize code and procedures; ability to read maps; ability to work effectively under stressful conditions regardless of the situation; ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm by completing a keyboard test administered by the Human Resources Department prior to the deadline; skills in the operation of radio, multi-line telephone with texting interface, computer aided dispatch and NCIC/IOWA system software, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel recommended, digital paging system and computer; State of Iowa NCIC Certification within six (6) months of employment; completion of BIST training; must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test; and a thorough background and criminal history review and polygraph examination after offer of employment. Regular work attendance required.
SHIFT: Must be able to work all shifts, including voluntary and forced overtime without any restrictions
SALARY: $21.79/hour + shift premium, if applicable
