DIRECT SUPPORT STAFF LINN COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES (LCCS)/OPTIONS OF LINN COUNTY

 

Part-time position (35 hours/week) to supervise and instruct individuals with disabilities on basic skills and/or personal support services in either facility or community settings. Teaches appropriate social skills that will enable individuals to be successful.  Assists with personal care as needed. Teaches appropriate behavior and/or social skills to individuals including communication, grooming and use of transportation. Organizes and participates in community integration activities and in facility activities per individual goals and objectives. Assists individuals with personal care needs, positioning, mobility, prescribed physical and occupational therapy activities, hygiene and first aid as necessary. Completes assessments of individuals in the areas of physical capacity and social adjustment. Documents and maintains records and reports related to attendance, individual programs and participation in activities per Medicaid guidelines to insure proper billing.  Participates in staff and consumer meetings and conferences as necessary, and assists in developing individual service plan goals. Provides individuals with proper equipment and supplies. May serve as liaison with management and employees of cooperating business in coordination of volunteer activities. May provide transportation for individuals as directed.  Serves as backup staff in other Options areas when necessary.  Trains staff backups as substitutes.  May assist student trainees.  Responsible for ensuring that assigned work area is a safe environment.  May administer medications.  Performs all other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:       High school diploma or equivalent with one (1) to three (3) years of recent paid experience working with persons with disabilities and one (1) year certificate in Disabilities Services Careers, OR twenty (20) hours of college coursework in the areas of sociology, psychology, social work, education or rehabilitation and one (1) to three (3) years of paid experience within the last five (5) years working with persons with disabilities.  Experience must be related to the target population and be approved as qualifying experience by the Options Director.  Basic knowledge of services for people with disabilities.  Ability to

assist consumers in developing self-regulation, problem solving and self-advocacy skills.  Ability to analyze needs and progress of consumers.  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.  Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.  Ability to work independently and coordinate the needs of the consumers with the needs of the business.  Basic computer skills required.  Skills in sign language may be helpful.  Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR

procedures desired. Valid State of Iowa Driver’s License required; Chauffeur Endorsement 3 may be required. May be required to obtain a Medication Manager Certificate. Background check required to ensure applicant is free of conviction or prior employment history of child or dependent adult abuse.  Regular work attendance required.

 

SHIFT:                             8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (paid lunch) Monday – Friday (35 hours/week)

 

SALARY:                        $19.19/hour
