CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – May 31, 2018 – The Cedar Rapids Fire Department is encouraging young women between the ages of 15 and 20 years of age to participate in the 2nd Annual “Fully Involved Young Women’s Fire Academy.”
Last year’s program was one of the first of its kind in the fire service. The curriculum for the Academy was developed by five female members of the Fire Department. The Academy is also primarily taught by female firefighters.
Young women who have thought about a career as a firefighter are encouraged to participate in this program. Participants will put on firefighter turnout gear and an air pack, conduct search and rescue drills, get certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and take the physical qualification test. The Academy is designed to teach leadership and team-building skills.
The Young Women’s Fire Academy will be held from August 6-10, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. The cost of the Academy is only $30.
